Council Aims

The Council has agreed to the following aims to be taken into consideration in all policy matters:

  1. To improve the service it provides whilst ensuring best value.
  2. To work with others to improve safety, the environment and quality of life in the town, paying particular attention to the needs of vulnerable members of our community.
  3. To regularly and effectively consult the community.
  4. To promote the local economy.

Southam Town Council Responsibilities

  • Play areas, recreation areas and other public open spaces
  • Street lighting (contracted to WCC - contact details on the Notice Board page)
  • Grants
  • Grange Hall as joint owners with Stratford District Council
  • Benches
  • Keeping residents informed through the newsletter and website
  • Distribution of travel tokens to eligible citizens

As well as its statutory responsibilities the Town Council also:

  • Contribute to initiatives that improve the quality of life for local people eg. financing the return of CAB to Southam,
  • Makes known its views to the Planning Authority (Stratford District Council),
  • Seeks to encourage partnerships which will lead to improvements for Southam people eg. 2020 Vision,
  • Keeps in touch with local residents and is able to inform the relevant authorities of action that needs to be taken.

Open Spaces for which Southam Town Council is Responsible

  • Park Lane Recreation Ground
  • Tollgate Road Recreation Ground (owned by WCC and leased to the Town Council)
  • Sycamore Grove Open Space
  • Merestone Park
  • The Furrows under 8 Play Facility
  • Riverside Walk (adjacent to Welsh Road East)
  • Shepherds Hill Play Area
  • Hodnell Drive Play Area
  • Priors Meadow Play Area and Open Space
  • Stowe Drive Open Space
  • Mayfield Road Open Space ( owned by the Diocese and leased to the Town Council)

Plans are currently underway in partnership with Orbit Housing to provide play equipment for young children on the Mayfield estate.

The Grange Hall

The Grange Hall is jointly owned by Southam Town Council and Stratford District Council and managed by the Grange Hall Management Committee (all volunteers).

The main hall can accommodate approximately 200 people and it is an ideal venue for individuals and organisations for entertainment, dances, celebrations and meetings; it has ample parking space.

Throughout the year the management committee arranges a variety of entertainment - please see the What's On page for the next event.

The Grange Hall can be booked through the Grange Hall Administrator, Mrs Carole Gwillam on 01926 813933 or Monday to Friday 9.00am to 1.00pm at the hall office.
